Mark Reading – Student Recognition and Achievement
About Mark Reading
Mark Reading is an important part of our school’s commitment to recognising and celebrating student achievement, positive behaviour and academic excellence.
Through this initiative, students, classes and houses are recognised for their accomplishments in academics, discipline, attendance, punctuality and overall effort.
Mark Reading encourages students to strive for excellence, demonstrate good character and take pride in their individual and collective achievements.
Understanding Our Assessment System
Students are assessed throughout the school term using two main forms of assessment:
- Bimonthly Assessments: Teachers award students a mark out of 10 in each subject during the term.
- End-of-Term Examinations: Students complete examinations at the end of the term, with marks awarded out of 100.
Each assessment provides opportunities for students to receive recognition for their performance and achievements.
Bimonthly Mark Reading
Bimonthly Mark Reading recognises students who demonstrate academic excellence, maintain good discipline, show consistent effort and make significant improvements in their studies.
Study Pluses
Study Pluses are awarded based on students’ bimonthly marks in each subject.
| Bimonthly Mark | Study Pluses |
|---|---|
| 6.5 – 8.4 | 1 Plus |
| 8.5 – 9.4 | 2 Pluses |
| 9.5 – 10.0 | 3 Pluses |
Extra Pluses
In addition to academic performance, students may earn Extra Pluses for positive contributions to school life, including:
- Demonstrating kindness, respect and good citizenship.
- Assisting teachers and fellow students.
- Showing initiative and responsibility.
- Performing good deeds and displaying commendable behaviour.
Extra Pluses are awarded at the discretion of teachers.
Minuses
Students may receive Minuses for breaches of school rules or unacceptable conduct, including:
- Failure to follow instructions.
- Improper school uniform.
- Disrespectful or inappropriate behaviour.
- Other disciplinary infractions.
Calculating Net Pluses
A student’s Net Pluses are calculated using the following formula:
Net Pluses = Study Pluses + Extra Pluses − Minuses
Net Pluses are used to determine eligibility for recognition during Bimonthly Mark Reading.

House recognition promotes teamwork, responsibility, school spirit and healthy competition.
End-of-Term Mark Reading
At the conclusion of each school term, students are recognised for their performance in the End-of-Term Examinations.
Recognition is awarded in the following categories:
Subject Excellence
Students who achieve the highest examination mark in a particular subject within their class.
First Place in Class
Students who obtain the highest overall percentage in their respective classes.
Overall Academic Achievement
Students who achieve an overall average of 65% or higher.
These awards celebrate academic achievement and encourage students to maintain high standards throughout the school year.
Our Commitment to Excellence
Mark Reading reflects our school’s belief that education involves more than academic achievement. It also encompasses discipline, responsibility, personal growth, respect and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Every student is encouraged to work diligently, maintain positive behaviour and take advantage of opportunities to improve.
At our school, we celebrate not only excellence in achievement, but also excellence in effort, character and conduct.
